This may look like a dead tree to you, but conservationists call this a “snag”, and they are a vital source of habitat and food for all kinds of animals/critters that we need in our forests for healthy biodiversity. Plus, they’re fun to paint 😉 The key focus of the painting: a lone redwood tree with a splash of sunlight. Lots of fun color study here with reflected light from the forest in contrast with the bright sunlight. A fun challenge to make the shaded bark a “cold red” (oxymoron?) This one’s all about depth, and depth requires layers. Here’s that all important second layer to block in the base colors. Usually I tend to lean darker and add highlights on top. I really love how this is coming together! That new painting feeling 🙌🏽 I’m so thrilled to announce that I’ve been accepted into The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, one of the nation’s top juried fine art festivals with all the accolades!!! To say this is a dream come true is such an understatement, it feels like a door to a whole new world of opportunity and I’m so so thankful. Come visit me as I wonder how on earth I get to display my artwork next to some of the best artists in the country!! March 21-23 mark your calendars! And thank you so much @winterparksidewalkartfestival for opening the door for me through the incredible emerging artist program. You have spoken, and you want more quick little paintings! So here you go a 2hr-limited impressionistic painting! There’s a lot to love about these quick ones, there’s more emotion and freedom of expression - capturing the feeling of the moment more than with realism. But the longer I look at this the more I wish I could “fix” it to look more realistic 😂 This is good for me, don’t worry I’ll do more!
